Inspired by Bentham’s ideal prison, the panopticon , a prison that makes every single inmate feel observed at all times, resulting in self-discipline. Focusing on the idea of being observed and the prisoners.
Bentham’s prison plan allowed a single unseen guard to observe all inmates. The power is not derived from the constant physical oversight, but from the knowledge that one could be watched at any moment, leading to self-discipline.
