Acquiescence

The need of acceptance

Inspiration

Concept

I caught myself pondering in class, until I became inspired, inspired by how along our lives we are faced by different situations which we are forced to face. Situations that vary in emotion, but that we must be able to live with. I found myself inspired by   fabric ruching and gathering that simulate some sort of bandage or wrapped gauze, by dark and vibrant colors, specifically red, a color that conveys varied emotions, such as violence, passion, sacrifice courage and love. Emotions that emit both negative and positive emotions, much like life itself, that varies in emotion. Wounds that at first hurt, bruise and concludes with a healed wound, one that is now a part of you.

The selection of pieces represents the different ideas I saw myself devising, the use of gathering to simulate the appearance of a wrapped gauze, the use of black and red and mostly the use of texture, threads and yarns that differ in thickness and tone, the use of transparency in fabric, and the layering of tulle on top of a smooth fabric to create texture, and ruching it to create slightly flower appearance.

The title of the collection represent the overall concept i want to convey with the pieces. The unwillingly or without protest part of the definition signifies the eventual acceptance you have to face to certain situations, life keeps on moving.

Texture exploration

I explored the look of bandage with the use of tulle with threads and beading, threading each by hand, adding red beads when needed. Additionally, i experimented with the used of red threads, each being a red hue and thickness, this created depth and added dimension.
